Following a recording of Monisme, by André David, the idea was born of a jointly-composed piece in his honour, with the violin as the means of communication. Four composers expressed a wish to honour the memory of their friend, who died in 2007. The collection of pieces, as it emerged, seemed to fall naturally into the form of a Suite. Each piece, however, is self-sufficient and may be played on its own.
