This collection brings to a close the series of "Bien commencer" [Starting Out Well] (vol. 1 and 2) and "Pour continuer" [Continuing the Guitar] (vol. 3) with another wide ranging selection of pieces, chosen so that the student may experience the fusion of classical and popular styles that characterises our instrument.
This fourth volume is mostly made up of works of the great composers of the nineteenth century, chosen for their value in teaching (and highlighting such techniques as slurs and barré-chords), with a special prominence being given to the fingering techniques of both hands.
It is aimed at students nearing the end of the first cycle of study in a conservatory [approximately Grade 2-3, Associated Board] and those beginning, and in the middle of, the second cycle, who have studied the guitar for 4 to 6 years [approximately Grade 3 - 7].
