In 1994, after several years of research into the French music of the Revolutionary period, Claude Villevieille re-instated the scores of the concerting pieces contained in this CD and recorded them as a world première. While awarded 4 "diapasons d'or" (French music awards) when first published, the new edition at last allows to rediscover Joseph-François GARNIER (1755-1825). Both composer and oboist, he was a friend of Rodolphe KREUTZER's, the celebrated violinist, who wrote and dedicated an oboe concerto to him. As a reflection of the musical fashion of the late XVIII th century, these "Simphonies Concertantes" are performed in this record by musicians who prove perfectly faithful to the spirit of when they were first created.
